A suitable Helper

A Suitable Helper

Genesis 2:18

“The Lord God said, ‘It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.’”

Have you ever wondered what it means to be a suitable helper as mentioned in Genesis? In my moments with God, I often ponder this question, seeking to understand how we can embody this role.

The pursuit of becoming a suitable helper has spanned years, not only among Christian women but also among those who aren’t. It’s fascinating to witness women, regardless of their faith, striving to be the best partners in their homes.

A suitable helper, according to the biblical context, is a woman married to a man, authorized by God to be one with her husband. The characteristics of such a helper are innate from the moment she says, “I Do.”

In a world obsessed with defining the qualities of a good wife, we no longer need to conform to worldly standards. The Word of God serves as a perfect guide, shaping our confidence.

Let’s explore some key characteristics of a sufficient helper:

  • Genuinely caring
    - Calm manner
    - Sense of humor
    - Clear thinker
    - Highly dependable
    - Honest
    - Uses common sense
    - Objective, not subjective
    - Self-confident
    - Self-aware
    - Positive attitude toward life
    - Respect for others
    - Warmth
    - Flexibility
    - Openness
    - Hospitable

Do you recognize these traits in yourself? As women, we inherently possess these qualities, making us more than qualified to fulfill our role as reasonable helpers. While we’re all a work in progress, let’s acknowledge the masterpiece our Creator is shaping in each of us.

Let’s pray together:

“Father God, we humbly come before you, seeking your mercy. Help us recognize our strengths as wives and suitable helpers. Remove the scales from our eyes so that we may see the best in ourselves, boosting our confidence in the roles you’ve assigned us. We thank you for healing and restoring us physically, spiritually, and emotionally. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.”
