Solid Food =Mature and Milk =Infant

Just to give a bit of a background: Been able to produce enough milk for your Little one requires discipline and willingness to feed them. When am asked how have I been doing it this far first of all i will say, it have been God who have been providing the milk and strength constantly. Mentally you have to want to breastfeed so bad that you do what is necessary to produce the milk which is eat well. Now while I haven’t been doing well in this area, but I will say I am doing my best. I do my best while i keep praying and asking God to help me in the process. It is challenging but I believe it is worth every second of it for my little one. I do not oppose formulae feeding at all because it supplement the breastfeeding, however I do recommend every mother desiring, trying and doing their best to breast feed if they can, because others can’t for multiple reasons but it’s the best milk God created for your child.

Now, at 4 months and above some mothers start transitioning their babies to solid food. It varies from child to child because some children take a while before they start accepting solids. I am still working on adding a bit of solids to my little one’s diet because she have refused it so for but her doctor said; not to force her but keep trying.

Now this leads me to my main point which is solid food =mature and milk = infant. According to Paul in Hebrews 5: 11–14, especially verse 14; Solid food is for the mature, who have some practice in telling right from wrong.

As a christian when we get saved like a newborn, we become born-again baby in christ. We then in the beginning feed on milk to get nourished. We are taught the word by others and discipled into been a follower of christ. For so many of us the process takes different timeframes and different process based on the church family we affiliate with. Now after a while of been fed milk as a new christian we are supposed to develop and with time transition to solid food. Now to be fed milk -been taught the word by others is great but it should get to a point where we have to learn the word for ourselves.

Hebrew 5:11–14 Msg version says it well.

Re-Crucifying Jesus

11–14 I have a lot more to say about this, but it is hard to get it across to you since you’ve picked up this bad habit of not listening. By this time you ought to be teachers yourselves, yet here I find you need someone to sit down with you and go over the basics on God again, starting from square one — baby’s milk, when you should have been on solid food long ago! Milk is for beginners, inexperienced in God’s ways; solid food is for the mature, who have some practice in telling right from wrong.

I like the part where it states -yet here i find you need someone to sit down with you and go over the basics on God again, starting from square one-baby’s milk.

It is very much so a rebuke, a wake up call and a strong warning because many of us get so comfortable feeding on milk. We go to church every Sunday and are preached to and then we leave and go back to doing the same old stuff.

Remember how he said you do not listen, we really don’t because we are comfortable drinking milk like a baby. Well unlike a baby they are allowed to breastfeed or drink the formulae milk till at least 2 years; this varies from child to child, also based on parents preferences as to when they can completely transition to solids.

As a christian though, the transitioning occurs based on our growth in Christ and our maturity. Some of us have been in church so long that we are confused about whether we are a baby drinking milk or a mature christian. The key like my baby’s doctor said about her feeding soilds, for me to keep trying her. You too should keep trying; reading, praying and maintaining a relationship with God no matter what. When you slack, get back at it.

I like how he ended distinguishing it in detail saying; that a mature christian practice telling right from wrong why because they feed on solids. They are learning the word for themselves and even when been preached to they actually listen. They find interest in eating the meat which is God’ s word and no longer drinking milk.

My baby have been so used to drinking the breast milk, that she refused to take formulae or even a diluted milk-mixed with water. No matter when whether at night or day she will tell the difference and refuse the food and would wait for the authentic milk which in her case is the breastmilk.

Now when you are been feed milk as a new believer you are given what is been handed to you, whether right or wrong; you don’t quite know much of the difference. At times the word might be watered down or mis-interepreated but because you don’t know any better you might receive it. Most new believers at some point gain interest in reading the word for themelsves. Studying the word constantly fills you, empower you, and open your eyes to see clearly when the enemy attracts. It equip you to use your sword the word, to thrive in every situation. It also helps you distinguish God Rhema word from the chaff. Stay alert, to claim God promises.

For me I got curious, and started asking questions; if this particular thing the Pastor is saying in the word is true, then let me write it down and go read it myself. I began to ask questions; is that what that scripture really means, or what is the whole story about how this verse is been presented to me. What does the verses before talk about before this particular scripture? The curiosity have been driving me and is still driving me to want to find out more of Gods word. To want to eat more and to want to grow in him.

For others the desire happens different, but no matter how it happens let’s listen to Paul and get off the milk because “ Milk is for beginners, inexperienced in God’s ways; solid food is for the mature, who have some practice in telling right from wrong. Your maturity increase as you learn his word, listen and practice telling right from wrong. As a mature christian no one should have to tell you this is right or wrong, you should already know that because the Holy Spirit which is in you will guide you into all truth through his word and convicting you when you do wrong.

Prayer :

Father God today, we want to stand on this word and ask that you help us mature and transition from milk to solid, that we will yearn to feed on the real meat, your word. We have been stagnant for so long and comfortable so please deliver us from ourselves. Open our eyes to see beyond ourselves and our circumstances, that we will focus on our kingdom purpose. Continue God to mold, shape and make us into whom you have called us to be. Thank you so much for loving us right where we are, as you take us from glory to glory. In Jesus name! Amen
