Walking in God’s freedom, blessing and claiming your victory

Scripture: John 8: 31–47 but with emphasis on verse 31–35.

Key Verse: So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed!!!

You claim to be free yet you walk in slavery. You are so comfortable in sin which is your slavery, that you choose to just get by then to walk in total freedom. We are like the children of Israel, been enslaved for so many years, during which they complained and yearned to be free(breaking forth, deliverance, not under the subjection of your master,).

Verse 35 “Jesus said, a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever”. As a slave, you have no worth, no right and you cannot inherit anything from your master. You are invaluable( not important when it comes to family concerns) and can be disposed at any time, which they usually do not intend to but you have no worth. Usually the masters “Love” their slaves not because they care for them but because they need them to continue to be bond( they need them to be indebted to them forever). They need them to stay around to clean, cook, take care of those chores and activities that the master is too good enough to do.

The children of Israel were great examples in modeling the activities and lifestyle of a slave. They were bond to their masters for so many years. They craved freedom, but yet feared the ability to take a step towards it, walk in it and experience it to the fullest. God had to intervene for them by sending Moses to get them out of Egypt. And even after God intervened they still craved to go back by complaining and yearning for their comfort zone(what they are used to and what they were complacent within their lives).

In Exodus 14:12- Didn’t we say to you in Egypt, ‘Leave us alone; let us serve the Egyptians’? It would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the desert!”

Are shocked when you read this text? Do you think they are stupid to yearn eagerly to go back in bondage all of the sudden?

It was all of a sudden because this was a few hours after they had left the Egyptians (their slave master). Their journey had just begun when they started to complain just because they encountered an obstacle. Many of us like, their obstacles threaten our freedom and cause us to look back. Pharaoh and his men( their slave masters after releasing them had a regret), they were like what did we just allow our slaves to go free. No, they are ours and belong to us to serve, so let's pursue them immediately. The Israelites encountering the red sea(their obstacle) quickly looked back but ( most of the times what we left behind also may be pursuing us via the enemy but through family, friends, etc… that’s why when you going forward keep going and do not turn behind. They looked behind and quickly jump to conclusions and started to complain! I have done this so many times, and we are all guilty.

Moses had to encourage them and direct them to the king of kings and the Lord of Lords. He had to help them recognize their freedom, their deliverance -which he was fully aware that God can do, which is their new Master except you do not become a slave in his kingdom but a son(both male & female)!

Exodus 14: 13 reads:

13 Moses answered the people, “Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Egyptians you see today you will never see again. 14 The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”

This is why we need to not forsake the assembly of believers. We should submit to our leaders and pastors because when God gives you a Pastor as your head, and there is a level of faith and a sense of direction they can have to influence and strengthen you in your faith if you are in the right fellowship and under the right leadership.

In John 8: 33

Answered to Jesus saying: “ We are Abraham’s descendants and have never been slaves of anyone. How can you say we shall be set free?

verse 34: Jesus replied: ‘ Very truly I tell you, everyone who sins, is a slave to sin. — This explains itself, when you sin, you become a slave to sin! Sin rules over you- the father of sin and lies is the devil. He becomes your master. As you continue to live in sin and do not repent you become his slave!

The scripture went on to verse 35: Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever. As a slave to sin -the enemy you have no place in the kingdom of God, you are doomed and he has the ability to treat you as he pleases and mostly to the extent you allow him. Since you are so content and complacent you give him more right and license to rule and reign over you and capture you completely. You experience no peace, rest but go through pain, torture, and torment from the devil.

As Christians, we are saved and as my mother in the Lord(Lorraine Phy)said according to the scriptures; when you become saved the scripture

2 Corinthians 5:17:Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation: old things are passed away, behold all things become new!!

She said it this way, paraphrasing her: salvation causes the old you to die and the new you to be resurrected! With that been said, yet we still try to go back and dig up the dead man, we are to leave behind.

You are free with your debt paid(Christ death on the cross and his resurrection from the cross) yet you walk not in freedom!

Knowing you are free is one thing, but walking in his freedom and victory is another thing!

So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.”John 8:36 NIV

You are free but for you to walk in it, you need to know and understand what freedom means; delivered, rescued, set apart, breaking forth, no longer a slave, no longer a captive, you are free of guilt, condemnation, you are free from the lies of the enemy, you are free from the doom of the devil, you are free from his barriers, you are free from the debt that you owe, you are free from all his tricks, chores, etc….

Meaning now you have worth, now you have a place in the family, now you have a purpose, an ability to breathe and live your life, you qualify for the inheritance that the father has given you, you qualify to be blessed and be a blessing to others! Please understand my friend you are totally free!! Jesus has paid the debt once and for all.

You have to give up and stop living in sin, yes we cannot be perfect but falling short daily is one thing, and living in sin is living in rebelliousness. You live in sin while knowing it is not good, yet you choose to, saying I can’t help it. No, the truth is you love it and are content, because if you seek to walk in freedom and deliverance; all you have to do is ask God for help in that area of weaknesses and he will help you and make his resurrection power that sets you free evident in that particular area and aspect of your life.

I encourage you today to surrender it all to Jesus and let him take complete control of your life! Trust me, when I say it’s for the best, that way you will not only know you are free but you will walk in it and experience the true freedom of the power of God through his death and resurrection.

Someone once said; when we sin; we nail Jesus to the cross once again! If this is true are you willing to crucify Jesus again, your already resurrected king! Of course, this isn’t true but you get the picture.

Ask Jesus today how can, I walk in your freedom???

Accepting that you are saved, and walking in the redemptive freedom of God, will keep you guided by the Holy Spirit who will use the spirit of God in you and you're conscious to keep you walking in the grace and mercies of God. On our own, we cannot walk on the right path but his grace is sufficient for us. The freedom of God does not lead to destruction but to eternal life, but the freedom of the world leads to destruction and torment.

(2 Corinthians 12:9)

But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.
